Prepare yourselves, Overwatch fans, because Season 7 is just around the corner, and it’s set to be darker and more thrilling than ever before. Blizzard is bringing an array of exciting new content, including a crossover game mode, a Halloween event, a vibrant map, significant balance updates, and much more. Dive into the world of Overwatch 2 as we explore what Season 7, aptly named “The Rise of Darkness,” has in store.
Part 1: Trials of Sanctuary – A Blizzard Crossover Game Mode
In an unprecedented move, Blizzard is introducing a new crossover game mode called “Trials of Sanctuary” alongside the Halloween Terror 2023 event. In this co-op survival brawl, players will confront the menacing demons of the Burning Hells. You’ll have the opportunity to embody one of six unique heroes, each with its abilities: Demon Hunter Sombra, Barbarian Zarya, Night Raven Illari, Cleric Lifeweaver, Imperious Reinhardt, and Inarius Pharah. Together, you’ll battle relentless forces and face formidable bosses, including Azmodan Wrecking Ball, Butcher Roadhog, and the formidable Lilith Moira herself.
Part 2: Halloween Terror Returns with Classic Modes
Halloween Terror is making a spine-chilling comeback with two classic modes: Junkenstein’s Revenge and Wrath of the Bride. Engage in these fan-favorite event modes and take on new challenges while earning bonus Battle Pass XP, Overwatch Credits, and an array of eerie cosmetics. The Halloween festivities will run from October 10 to November 1, promising a thrilling and spooky experience for all.
As you conquer the event’s tricky challenges, you’ll have the chance to spend your hard-earned credits on exclusive rewards. For the first time, you can use your credits to unlock Overwatch 2 heroes: Sojourn, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Ramattra, and Lifeweaver. This unique opportunity is available for a limited time, specifically until October 17. Additionally, Overwatch Credits can be used to acquire returning skins in the Halloween Terror Credits Shop, including the new Gilded Hunter Sombra Legendary Skin, a remix of the Demon Hunter Sombra. Be quick, though, as these limited-time items will vanish into the ether on November 7.
Part 3: Battle on the Hot New Map of Samoa
Season 7 introduces one of the most complex Overwatch 2 maps yet: Samoa. This Control map immerses you in tropical beaches, quaint villages, and even the heart of a volcano. Watch your step to avoid deadly pitfalls, including the perilous lava. Samoa will be playable from day one in a dedicated Arcade card and will later appear in Quick Play and other unranked modes starting October 10, with its inclusion in Competitive Play planned for later in the season.
Part 4: Sinister Collection of Loot
The Battle Pass for this season takes a dark and spooky turn, featuring themed cosmetics that will give your opponents and teammates the creeps. Whether it’s the Victorian Ghost Lucio or the Crimson Clown Soldier: 76, everyone can earn new Epic skins. The Premium Battle Pass offers terrifying Legendary skins such as Azmondan Wrecking Ball, Victorian Doll Echo, and Diesel Barron Ramattra. Should you conquer all 80 tiers, you’ll unlock the coveted Mythic Onryō Hanzo.
The Ultimate Battle Pass bundle for this season includes the Legendary Lilith Moira Skin and the Legendary Inarius Pharah Skin, along with an Epic Pumpkin-Spice themed skin for Bastion. This bundle also provides you with 1,000 Overwatch Coins and 20 Tier Skips to expedite your journey through the tiers. Expect even more spine-tingling surprises in the in-game premium shop in the weeks to come.
Part 5: Sombra’s Rework and Hero Balance Preview
One of the standout features of Season 7 is the reworked ability kit for Sombra. Blizzard has made significant changes to Sombra’s abilities, including removing Opportunist and reworking her Stealth ability to activate passively when she’s not taking damage or using abilities. Her Translocator now offers instant teleportation upon deployment, and she gains a new ability called Virus, dealing damage over time to her target. These changes aim to make Sombra more engaging to play and play against while maintaining her identity as the world’s top hacker.
Part 6: Hero Balance and Route 66 Map Update
Season 7 brings a slew of balance changes for various heroes, including Mei, Zarya, Orisa, Wrecking Ball, Cassidy, Torbjorn, Brigitte, and Illari. Blizzard is also making adjustments to the Route 66 map to improve the attacker’s chances of exiting their initial spawn. The Panorama Diner is open for business, offering additional cover, and the doors near the first checkpoint will partially malfunction, giving attackers more options. Defenders will have new opportunities to thwart attackers at the final checkpoint, with cargo adjustments in the Deadlock Gang’s lair. The map also receives new overcast lighting, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
Part 7: More to Come
The excitement doesn’t end with the launch of Season 7 on October 10. As a gesture of goodwill due to a bug with the Anniversary Event challenges, all players who log in from October 10 to October 16 will receive 3,000 Overwatch Credits, providing ample opportunities to enhance their in-game experience. Stay tuned for additional content and updates in the coming weeks, including surprises to be unveiled at BlizzCon 2023.
