Samsung’s mobile division has long departed from the grandiose show unveilings, opting for a more strategic and time-sensitive approach. The days of saving the first big phone news of the year for the weeks leading up to Mobile World Congress appear to be a thing of the past. The upcoming Unpacked event, scheduled for January 17, is positioned strategically, a week after the conclusion of CES. Following the company’s usual patterns, this event is likely to unveil Samsung’s new mobile flagship, the highly anticipated Galaxy S24.

Reflecting on the previous year’s event, held in early February, Samsung introduced three key versions of the S23 alongside a range of Galaxy Book laptops. As tradition dictates, leaks of the new handsets have been circulating for a few months, building anticipation for what’s to come.

Renders of the Galaxy S24, S24+, and the S24 Ultra suggest a design evolution rather than a revolutionary shift. The devices are expected to feature 6.2-, 6.7-, and 6.8-inch displays, respectively. The S24 and S24+ are speculated to sport a trio of rear-facing cameras, while the Ultra model raises the bar with a quartet, including an impressive 200-megapixel sensor.

The Ultra variant maintains key elements inherited from the Galaxy Note line, such as square edges and S Pen functionality. Additionally, rumors suggest a titanium option for the ultra-premium model, a feature reminiscent of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Despite being among the first devices powered by Qualcomm’s advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, leaked price sheets indicate a potentially lower price point in Europe, offering potential buyers a compelling value proposition.

Breaking from tradition, the Unpacked event will take place in the South Bay, commencing at 10 a.m. PT and available for streaming. For those eager to secure the device before seeing it in person, Samsung is sweetening the deal by offering a $50 “reserve credit” on preorders until January 16. This move adds an extra layer of excitement and incentive for consumers to engage with the brand and explore the latest offerings in the Galaxy S series.
